Dynamic Colorado Weather Map
A real-time 3D relief map of Colorado built in TouchDesigner, driven by live National Weather Service data. Each weather station is placed at its true geographic position on the terrain and rendered as a column of GPU particles. Particle color follows the NWS temperature scale, and each station’s wind speed and direction set the density and flow of its particles.
Terrain relief comes from a map image converted into point-based geometry. Station data is pulled from the NWS API with Python, remapped from latitude and longitude into terrain space, and fed into a POP particle system with GLSL shaders that keep each station’s particles inside their own volume. Bloom and a final color pass finish the look. I designed the project and built the network in TouchDesigner, and I used Claude to help write the Python scripts and GLSL shaders.
